Devotion is not about getting

Devotion is not about getting needs met.
It is not about getting.
If I depend on someone to meet my needs, I am trying to strip them of their right to make individual choices.
You are not in debt to me just because we are in a relationship.
You are not being threatened with abandonment just because I am hurting.
You are not going to be punished just because I did not get what I wanted.
On the contrary, thank you for helping me become irritated in just the right way that I can wake up out of my sleep enough to meet my own needs!
And then, if and when we do happen to meet each other’s needs it is truly a gift rather than an unholy unconscious fear-based obligation agreement.
